Bassist, Multi-Instrumentalist, Songwriter, Producer, and Recording Engineer
Jimbo began his career at the age of 12, playing VFW’s and Elks Lodges with local country bands from the Muscle Shoals area. His first recording session happened that same year. He now has upwards of 500 album and single credits and has won 4 Grammy Awards and 2 Americana Music Association Awards for his work with Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, which he co-founded in 2006. They toured North America, Europe, and Australia, as well as making several appearances on late-night TV, including The Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Late Night with Seth Meyers. The 400 Unit also performed numerous times for CBS Sunday Morning and Austin City Limits. Jimbo has also toured the US with Papa Mali, Gary Nichols, Drayton Farley, and Clayton Bellamy.
Upon his return to Muscle Shoals in 2023, after years of living in New Orleans and Nashville, Jimbo was welcomed with open arms into the Fame Gang, the house band at the legendary FAME Studio, and has since recorded with Mike Farris, ‘Lightning” Larry Dupio, Shelly Fairchild, and many others.
He also thrives in the remote recording idiom and has worked with artists from Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
